We live in the province of Padova, in the Veneto region of Northeast Italy, near Venice—an area renowned for its rich traditions of craftsmanship, including leather goods, glassmaking, and textile artistry. Our passion for these artisanal crafts, particularly leather products, has led us to explore what makes certain leather items, like bags, so trendy, luxurious, and desirable in the international market.
Leatherworking mastery in Veneto originated during the Middle Ages, initially serving local nobility and merchants. From the 13th to the 17th centuries, Venice’s maritime trade expanded this tradition, integrating global influences and exporting luxury leather goods, establishing Veneto’s enduring heritage.
In modern times, many of these artisans have grown into larger manufacturing facilities or have been acquired by multinational companies. Despite gaining international recognition, some of these companies have prioritized brand image and profit over refining traditional bag-making excellence. As a result, they focus on creating a perception of exclusivity and quality to justify higher prices, even though the product quality may not reflect this. This shift has often led to a decline in material standards, with production outsourced to low-cost countries, resulting in bags that resemble mass-produced industrial products rather than authentic artisanal creations. Only a handful of brands have resisted this trend.
Inspired by this realization, we founded Ornella Gorza Ltd to design, handcraft, and commercialize bags worldwide, adhering to our core values: using high-quality, environmentally responsible materials and partnering with skilled local artisans, who possess deep expertise in luxury bag production. These artisans uphold the highest standards of craftsmanship, focusing on quality, attention to detail, and durability while ensuring our designs are both trendy and timeless.
The result is a collection of bags that embody our vision and are fairly priced to reflect the intrinsic value we invest in every step of the creation process, all carried out entirely in Italy.
